Famous Show ‘MasterChef Ecuador’ Secret Ingredient… Endangered Animals
A meal fit for a king…
"‘MasterChef Ecuador’ is in hot waters… Literally. They have been accused by the contestants of the show, and an animal rights groups for the use of multiple endangered animals as their ‘Secret Ingredient’. Since the accusations, the episode has now been removed from their YouTube channel.
News clip found here: https://youtu.be/eeSKIz2XzG8 or type in “Teleamazonas” for their YouTube channel. They have since replaced the video with an edited version with the endangered-animal meat has now been cut (literally and figuratively) from the clip.
The episode aired January 3, in which the chefs were asked to cook Capybara, Amazonian Crocodile, Humpback Smooth-Hound Shark, and Jungle White-Tail deer. The meats were clearly labeled; “Tollo,” “Banilla,” “Venado,” & “Capibara” on a wooden cutting board.
Animal rights group “MAN” or better known as “The National Animal Movement of Ecuador”, came out with a statement saying, “We ask the producers of the program and the channel that broadcasts the program for an explanation where the meat of these animals came from.” A judge from the show named Carolina Sanchez, responded to the group saying the meat was from a local farm (thank goodness they support farm to table…) Carlos Correa, Colombia’s environmental minister, tweeted that the department will be conducting a thorough investigation into where the producers “obtained” the meats.
